"Free English for All"
Our Story
Eunoia English was founded in 2026 by Sunny Yuan, a rising junior at Franklin High School. Sunny previously worked as an English tutor for Chinese students through several organizations, teaching many students and gaining valuable experience. Inspired by this experience, she decided to create her own team of tutors to ensure that more students across China have access to the English language. Through this program, students not only learn English but also gain insight into Western culture.
"Eunoia" is a word of Greek origin that means “beautiful thinking” or “a well-balanced, harmonious mind.” Just as the word suggests, the nonprofit aims to cultivate positive thinking, curiosity, and global understanding through English learning. By connecting English-speaking tutors with students across China, Eunoia English doesn’t just teach a language—it helps students develop a broader perspective, critical thinking skills, and a deeper appreciation for different cultures, reflecting the spirit of “eunoia.”
Eunoia English is a youth-led nonprofit with a global reach, dedicated to giving as many students in China as possible access to the English language. Through one-on-one and group lessons of 2 or more students, as well as personalized classes, we aim to enhance students’ English proficiency and communication skills.
Each lesson is 45 minutes long, and each term consists of 10 classes. If the classes go well, the tutor and tutee(s) can become long-term buddies, continuing together until either party requests a switch. For beginners, we provide basic grammar and vocabulary lessons, while students who prefer interactive learning can participate in readings and skits. Advanced students have access to tailored lessons and advanced readings, ensuring that every lesson is customized to the student’s individual needs.
You don't have to speak Chinese to tutor!
Our program also offers many benefits for tutors. Volunteers can earn official volunteer hours, and any tutor who prepares a tailored lesson receives double the hours. We provide training when needed, write recommendation letters for committed tutors, and offer a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in Chinese culture while making a meaningful impact.
